Danny Joe Malcomb was a typical teenager in Ramona S.D. in the 1960's. Life was slow in that small town and he wanted to do all of the things every other teenager did. When his country called him to go to Vietnam he went, he went Airborne.
About 6 months into his tour he was shot by friendly fire, his trigger finger was blown off the grenade launcher he carried. He did not get mad, at least he was alive.
That was a tragedy but after about 18 months and couple of surgeries the Army fixed his hand pretty well, he could not make the Peace sign with his fingers but he did well for a small town kid.
The REAL TRAGEDY was lurking in his body, you see he had been sprayed with AGENT ORANGE, heck every one was sprayed no big deal.
Things went well until the middle late 70?s when he felt pain in his knee, that pain turned out to be cancer. To make a long story short his leg was amputated and he went through a long series of chemo. He was pronounced in remission and ?cured? in the early 1980?s. He did very well, started his own company and thought life was going to be good.
In 1992 the Cancer came back with a vengeance, in January 1993 it took his life after long and painful illness. But all was not lost he left two beautiful daughters, Dan did not live to see his grandchildren.
End of story? No such luck, life hits him again, this time his first born daughter, now 31 years old has cancer, thank you AGENT ORANGE, the gift that keeps on giving.
The Government did not hurt it?s own soldiers on purpose I am sure, but the Govt. Has no plans for the children of agent orange victims and certainly no obligation for the care and education of grandchildren.
?People Who Care About Joey? is a group of people organizing an event to raise money for our friend, Joey Boyer 31 year old daughter of Daniel Malcomb, Joey has been battling cancer for over a year and her condition has recently worsened. Her low blood count level is making it difficult for doctors to treat her.
Joey is the single mother of Dominick, age 11, and Danielle, age 5.
